An albino hedgehog has become an internet star after its Japanese owner posted pictures of her pink eyed pet online. Media reports say that owner Tokiko Kojima, 25, had decided to simply take ordinary snaps of her two pet hedgehogs, one regular and one albino, and post them online for her friends to see but found they became immediately popular and widely shared. Hedgehogs typically walk several miles every night in their search for food but the young woman’s hedgehogs are clearly living the good life as their round shape shows. In addition, because they are living with her and refuse to hibernate they had been eating all year round without stop on a diet of ham and milk. It has meant she has ended up with two very roly-poly hedgehogs, both perfectly used to human company as the pictures show, although they still roll up into a ball when handled, making them perfect still life subjects for her photographs. She said she was surprised at the success of the pictures because she had not used any gimmicks like clothing or Photoshop to make the pictures more elaborate, and had simply snapped them in everyday poses at her home in the Japanese capital Tokyo. She told local radio: «They have a personality of their own that simply shines out. They don’t need any tricks to show how adorable they are.» The young woman did not indicate if the hedgehogs had names, but they are clearly pampered pets.
